Teaming and Collaboration

What are we about?
Teaming & CollaborationWhile putting considerable thought into the school that we want to create, and sharing ideas surrounding a staff profile (desired skills, characteristics and focus of staff members), it became evident that Edgerton will be a school based on the fundamentals of a “Professional Learning Community”. The focus will be on helping each student reach high levels of success via collaboration, use of data to drive instruction, and a commitment to bettering ourselves regularly as educators. Even the building itself is being designed to promote collaboration by staff and students alike. In addition to the project rooms that are shared between every two classrooms, there is also a doorway between the two rooms to promote collaboration. At Edgerton, working together will be routine for everyone! The Lead Team of Edgerton Elementary has elaborated on the collaboration opportunities to support a “Professional Learning Community”: Collaboration Opportunities-Wednesday LIC: A pre-planned, formalized schedule for teaming and planning by grade level teams, vertical teams, and special programs (Spec. Ed., Title/LAP, ELL, etc.). Time spent will be purposeful and will impact student achievement.
-Grade level and vertical team meetings.
-Staff meetings focusing on problem-solving and discussion of school-wide efforts.
-CSIP: building goal-setting efforts, with a special emphasis on remediation to support struggling students.
-On-going professional development as a building (reading, math, writing, technology, supplemental programs), reaching each staff member at his/her current level.-Implementation of specific programs and philosophies including, but not limited to, mainstreaming of students in special programs, a school-wide assessment schedule, Accelerated Reader, Step-Up-To-Writing, ability grouping, progress monitoring, etc.
-Team time will be spent on analyzing data/student-work used to measure student progress and influence instruction.
-An effort will be made for grade level common planning times.
-Use of book studies, teacher-to-teacher informal observations, and on-going discussions surrounding effective teaching will take place.
-A school-wide commitment to the Edgerton Code-of-Conduct.
-Universal ownership and responsibility for the learning and behavior of all students
-Commitment to school-to-home communicationPrograms & Educational ApproachesAs a building team, Edgerton Elementary will support the programs listed below. Note that changes may occur, based on students’ needs and CSIP work.
